PM presents ’45 Under 45’ Leadership Excellence Awards

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena presented ’45 Under 45’ Leadership Excellence Awards at a function held at Galle Face Hotel in Colombo on May 16.

In addition to Leadership Awards to young business leaders, a special award was presented to late Dr A T Ariyaratne, pioneer of Sarvodaya movement and it was received by Mrs Nita Ariyaratne. The event was organized by Global CEO Forum. Minister of Health Dr Ramesh Pathirana and Global CEO Forum Chairman Anura Siriwardena were also present at this event.

Prime Minister calls for increasing economic and religious ties with Myanmar…

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said there is huge potential for further increasing trade, economic and Buddhist ties between Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

He said this when Myanmar Charge d’ Affairs Lei Yi Win called on him at the Temple Trees today (May 16).

The Prime Minister said that economic and trade relations in many areas such as gem and jewellery, tea and coconut trade, minerals, tourism with especial emphasis on Buddhist tourism could be strengthened. He also suggested barter trade on tea and coconut as Myanmar is keen to export coconut to Sri Lanka for processing and re-exporting to third countries.

Utilize Galle, Kurunegala Technology Park buildings for a useful purposes - The National Operations Room advises the Ministry of Investment Promotion

It has been advised to the Ministry of Investment Promotion in the National Operations Room discussions to prepare a plan to make proper use of the buildings constructed in the Technology Parks by the Techno Park Company in Kurunegala and Galle Districts.

The problems of the development projects and the methods of expediting those projects were discussed by the National Operation Room headed by the Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake.

Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko said Japan is quite confident on Sri Lanka’s economic recovery as the country has made a satisfactory initial recovery after facing a severe economic downturn.

Sri Lankan envoys must take new initiatives to attract investments and tourists – Prime Minister

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that diplomatic practices have undergone a major transformation and today’s priority is economic diplomacy.

Speaking to nine newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioner, he urged them to take new initiatives and adopt new thinking to get economic benefits to the country.

He asked the new envoys to strictly follow the foreign policy of peace and nonalignment, which has won the respect of the world.

He also urged them to work with the Sri Lankan community in their countries and get their help to promote Sri Lanka’s interests. He also stressed the need to get more skilled jobs, investment and also development cooperation.

China and Sri Lanka to expedite implementation of MoUs
