The 82nd birthday celebration of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, which was organized by Kotte Naga Vihara, and in line with that the awarding of certificates go or creative Vesak greeting card design competition, which was conducted among Dhamma Schools, organized by Naga Vihara Youth Organization, under the guidance of the Prime Minister’s Office, in collaboration with the Colombo District Secretariat, was held on 30.05.2024 at the Temple Trees.

The Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau of the Postal Department issued a Commemorative Stamp and First Day Cover to mark the International Water Management Institute’s 40 years of partnership with Sri Lanka.

The first Commemorative Stamp and First Day Cover was ceremonially presented to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardana at the IWMI Headquarters at Pelawatte, Shrijayawardenepura today (May 29).

Addressing the function, Dr Simi Kamal, Chair, IWMI Board of Governors said that IWMI has broadened its focus on irrigation management to major issues of integrated water resource management at river basin and national levels and this evolution is reflected in its programmes in Sri Lanka.

Another phase of the program for the distribution of incubators aimed at strengthening the rural economy and uplifting small-scale poultry farm owners was held on 28.05.2024 at Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Through an incubator, which is provided under the assistance of the Chinese government, direct income sources will be opened for five families and many families in the villages related to those families will get its indirect benefits. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena visited the ’Sambuddhathva Jayanti Mandiraya’, Tummulla, Colombo, where a wealth of books, including the Pali Cannon, are kept for the said purpose.

This building is built on a land given by Hon Dinesh Gunawardena through the Urban Development Authority when he was serving as the Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development in 2010.

The Archaeological Exhibition opens in line with the festival.

The State Vesak festival was inaugurated with the blessing of the Maha Sangha, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, with the participation of foreign envoys including Ambassadors, Ministers and MPs, and government officials today (21.05.2024) at Dharmaraja Piriven Temple in Matale.

I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of His Excellency President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign minister Hossein Amir-abdollahian in a tragic helicopter crash.

The late President’s services for the people of Iran as well as to strengthen bilateral relations with Sri Lanka are legendary.
