Sri Lanka issued a commemorative postal stamp and a First Day Cover on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of notable Italian inventor, and creator of the radio Gugliemo Marconi at the Studio 6 of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation on April 29 with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunwardena, as the Chief Guest.

The Prime Minister said this participating in a meeting of sales agents of the Development Lotteries Board which was held at Water’s Edge, Colombo today (29.04.2024).

China’s assistance offered to expand the sectors related to renewable energy, vehicle manufacturing, agricultural technology, paper and printing related fields..

A meeting between China Association of Small and Medium Commercial Enterprises (CASMCE) and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena was held today (25.04.2024) at the Temple Trees.

Attention was paid onto expansion and trade investments in renewable energy, vehicle manufacturing, agricultural technology, paper and printing related fields.

Mr Ren Xinglei, President of CASMCE, said that the Chinese people are very happy about the Prime Minister’s visit to China and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the visit.

Mr Xu Xiang, Vice President of CASMCE said that there is potential to invest in the development of industries related to solar power, wind power and biomass energy in Sri Lanka.

Stamp duty on official affairs should be abolished. - Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the stamp duty on official affairs should be abolished, at Maharagama Pragathipura on 21.04.2024, while participating for the government’s new programme of distributing rice to low-income earners.

Speaking on this occasion the Prime Minister stated that

"The current government is taking steps to provide rice to the low-income earners who are suffering from various problems and to every family that is suffering from various health problems in every Divisional Secretariat through the subsidy program that is starting from today. The sole objective of the government is to feed the people of low- income families and their children with at least helping of one meal.

Constructing gunpowder warehouses in villages cannot be accepted. - Prime Minister

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that the establishment of gunpowder warehouses in villages despite public protest is unacceptable.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while attending the Sitawaka Pradesheeya Coordinating Committee meeting. The Prime Minister further commented that the proposal presented to the Sitawaka Coordination Committee to establish a warehouse for gunpowder and explosives used for stone quarrying which had been stored in several police stations in Hanwella, Diddeniya villages cannot be approved. The Prime Minister said that such activities should not be carried out as the storage of explosives in areas where people live can create unnecessary fear and disturbance among the public.
