Samakanda eco-logical farm is located in an ecological refuge and tropical forest garden bursting with fresh, organic produce roughly 20kms inland from Galle, off the Udugama Road near Nakiyadeniya in sixty acres of tea estate and perfect rainforest, a short drive from the Galle coast.
The three rainforest bungalows could be reserved, to watch birds swoop through trees at sunset; eat Sri Lankan food and sleep listening to the jungle. Hike the rainforest trails, learn to cook local dishes with our organic produce and absorb the spectacular views from the comfort of a hammock.
Samakanda; stands for “peaceful hill” in English, is situated on a long ridge – reaching a maximum of 240m above sea level. With steep slopes on both sides, it is bordered to the east by a river, the Polwatta Ganga, which ultimately joins the sea at Weligama. On good, clear days, it is possible to see the coast to the south and to the Sinharaja Rainforest to the north.
Samakanda is more than just a farm, however, since a great majority of it has been left as a biodiversity refuge to preserve habitats for many varieties of wildlife residing there. Much of the land is crossed by a great number of paths so that walks of various lengths and ease may be enjoyed to fill much of the day.
