Activities: Awards 1 year Diploma in Siddhayurveda Medicine, 2 year MD(Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine ) offered through Kelaniya University. The BAMS degree (Bachelor of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery) is a six year course, which includes a one year internship in a state hospital. A post graduate diploma in Hospital management is offered to ayurvedic graduates to upgrade their administrative capabilities.
Resources available to scholars: Currently there are about 21,000 books available of which 12,000 are on ayurvedic medicine. This collection includes Ayurveda in Sinhala as well as those in Hindi, English and Sanskrit. The other books are on varied disciplines. The journal of the Institute , GWAI, is issued quarterly and consists of research papers of ayurvedic scholars. The students have prepared a herbarium (Ardharshaka) for the benefit of those who will enter at a later time. The herbal garden has a collection of rare herbal plants and a drug manufacturing unit. There is also a 120-bed teaching hospital.
