The "Ranmal Rest & Tourist Hotel" was established in 1981 as a small guesthouse with five simple rooms and in the following years refurbished and enlarged several times.
In 1992 the Ranmal Beach Restaurant was opened on the first floor with a wonderful sea view; later, a terrace was added on the ground floor. In 2003 two Cabanas were added to the "Ranmal Rest & Tourist Hotel".
In order to keep up with the rising demand for hotel-quality rooms, between 2003 and 2008 more hotel-style rooms were added. Warm water supplies to these rooms are provided by a solar heating system. For the past few years, guests at the Ranmal have also had access to the hotel's free Wi-Fi.
The Ranmal survived the tsunami on 26 December 2004 with no causalities and relatively little damage. The damage was limited mainly to the furnishings of the ground floor bedrooms. The subsequent renovation benefited the simpler rooms in particular, as the standard of these rooms was significantly improved.
