INTRODUCTION
KALPITIYA DIVISIONAL SECRETARY DIVISION
kalpitiya Divisional Secretary Division is one of the 16 Divisional Secretary Divisions in the Puttalam District in North western province of Sri Lanaka. It's three sides are surrounded by water. It is a flat land in 94 km2 extension. The peninsula between Indian ocean and Puttalam lagoon is with many islands. Its boundaries are by north Mannar sea limit by east Puttalam and Wanathavilluwa (Puttalam lagoon) Secretary Divisions by south Puttalam and Mundal Divisional Secretary Divisions.
The 2/3 of its lands area comes Under the kalpitiya Pradesiyasaba limit. It is belongs to kalpitiya and Puttalam police area. This is a agricultural and fishing area.
SOIL TYPE OF THE AREA.
this peninsula is formed by covering the lime layer with the sand. this sand soil, same soil experts say " Regosolsoil". In addition to the main land there are so many islands Karaithive, Baththalangunduwa, Palliyawaththa, and Iluppanduwa. some of the islands are in the puttalam lagoon and others are in between the lagoon and the Indian ocean.
Kalpitiya area is flat and sandisoil but closed to the Indian ocean there are many soil dunes which are made by the wind. Soil type in this area as follows.

Carbon 4.00%
Phosphate 2.50%
Potash 0.04%
WATER RESOURCE.
Even though Kalpitiya belongs to tropical area there is no water scarcity. there are many small water resviors in Kalpitiya. Etalai is the biggest one of them.
10 to 20 feet dig to supply water so the agricultural is a success one.
