The Colombo South Teaching Hospital was started on the 02 July 1960 by the then Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike, as a Base Hospital. The Hospital was upgraded to a Teaching Hospital in 1995.
The hospital is spread on 18 acres of land, and it is becoming increasingly popular and greatly increasing the services to the public through its largest Out Patient Department ,New eight storied building and a theatre complex with 6 new theaters and most of all the sincere service of the staff. A four storied building for a new Psychiatry Unit came into being in 2001and anther section for new radiology unit, laboratory services and the finer specialties, is planned to be built.
